Hevik Portland jacket £170

-

Tested by Jordan Gibbons for two months, 1500 miles

The Portland, is Hevik’s answer to the current waxed jacket trend but it’s not all for show. Hidden behind the three-quarterlength wax cotton exterior is a proper waterproof liner and hidden further behind that is CE Level 1 armour at the shoulders and elbows. There’s also a fairly thick thermal liner and a compartment for a back protector. There are plenty of pockets, the waterproof layer has kept me completely dry while the thermal liner has kept me warm when needed. There are some sticking points though. The jacket material is quite heavy and not particularly breathable. There are no vents either, so in warmer weather you boil. You could say ‘save it for winter then’ but the cuffs are so tiny it’s nighon impossible to fit them over a slightly thick winter glove.
