‘Bump for fun, jump for joy’
There’s nothing more moraleboosting than a bunch of guys getting together to bump start a dead bike. There’s drama, there’s tension, there’s sweat… there can even be some blood if someone falls over while doing it. If there’s enough juice in the battery to power the ignition lights and prime the fuel pump, and you’ve got a bunch of mates to push, bump-starting a bike is always an option. Just turn on the ignition, put it into gear (first or second depending on the bike), clutch in, big push, drop the clutch and (in theory) your dead bike fires into life. It’s fairly easy on smallcapacity machines, but becomes a whole lot more challenging on big-capacity bikes in which case a hill or at least a small decline will be your friend. Some bikes with slipper clutches will let you do it, others won’t. Make sure the ground is dry and your friends are feeling fit. But honestly, jumpstarting is so much easier.
