‘MILD WINTER MAKES ME EVEN MORE ANNOYING!’

-

For years, I’ve played this silly game where I try to identify the make and model of bike as it whizzes past in the opposite direction. When playing this while driving with the missus and kids in the car, it seems to cause a fair level of irritation as I blurt out: “Kawasaki Z900 or Yamaha Diversion,” which makes it even more fun! While yelling various bike names at the top of my voice recently, a comment was made about how often this seems to be happening right now. And it is.

Rarely have I seen so many bikes out and about at this time of the year. The decent summer seems to have spilled over into a mild winter; at least for now. And riders are making the most of the reasonably dry roads and nonfrostbite-inducing temperatures.

A recent (admittedly) short hop on a Z900 reminded me just how rewarding a winter ride can be. Let’s hope the snow stays away and that this mild winter merges into a Spring full of fresh hope and more than six hours of daylight. Then that 5000-mile 2019 target may just be achievable (see page 7).
