Already a rivalry thanks to their clash in Qatar the year before, Rossi reportedly swore that Gibernau would never win another race (see 15, right) and he made sure of it in Jerez when he barged his rival out of the way in the final corner, taking the win and leaving the incredulous Spaniard looking on from the gravel trap.
