Kennedy in BSB move?
Jack Kennedy emphatically sealed his second consecutive British Supersport title at Donington as well as sealing his 17th and 18th race victories of the 2019 season. Following a truly dominant campaign, the Dubliner is looking towards the Superbike class next year. Once again, the 31-year-old was untouchable on Donington’s Grand Prix configuration as he led home Integro Yamaha team-mate Brad Jones in both races. While Jones continues to be linked with a Ten Kate World Supersport ride alongside Australian Tom Toparis for 2020, double champion Kennedy is tipped to be stepping up to the British Superbike category with TAG Yamaha.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Kennedy declared. “We wanted to go out there and win the title by winning the race. I wasn’t just going to play it safe. Brad kept me honest and pulled a few tenths back over a few laps so I really had to put the hammer down and was a bit loose in a few places. I’m over the moon. It doesn’t really feel real.” Riding for Robin Appleyard’s team, Kennedy has become just the third rider in the history of British Supersport to successfully defend a championship; the first was Scotland’s John Crawford in 1998 and 1999 before the late Karl Harris followed suit, the Englishman successfully clinching back-to-back crowns in 2003 and 2004.
