Tested by Emma Franklin for three months This is Italian brand Suomy’s rangetopping race helmet, developed with the help of Andrea Dovizioso. FIMhomologated like its main Shoei, Arai and AGV rivals, the SR-GP features a strongbut-lightweight carbon-fibre/aramid composite shell available in four sizes, advanced ventilation, and wind tunnel-developed aerodynamics to help boost stability at high speeds. In terms of comfort it feels very functional and firm, as you’d expect from a racing lid, and although the removable lining is very luxurious, this is a lid designed to be worn for very short periods of time and as such outright comfort is minimal. The Suomy’s ace card, however, is its phenomenally large visor aperture, which gives a completely unimpeded view of the road ahead. Even tucked in a racing crouch on track, you can’t see the brow nor the sides of the helmet in your peripheral vision. Plus, the optical Class1 visor gives perfect clarity.
