Speed limit could be lifted

Transport Minister, Grant Schapps, has said he will be re-examining the case for upping motorway speed limits now there is an increase in electric vehicle usage. A previous government study concluded that raising the limit to 80mph would raise pollution levels too much to be viable, however it’s believed the rise in electric vehicles may now offset this. There are concerns over safety however, as our motorway network is one of the safest in Europe and it is thought that this due to its relatively low speed limit.
