2014 TRIUMPH TIGER 800
799cc | 210kg | 94bhp | 810mm seat height
The 800 is light and nimble, practical and more than capable. The engine’s strong: nice and responsive but revvy too. It handles well and reliability is right up there. As with all Triumphs there are hundreds of accessories available. They’re a bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Both the XR and XC models are great options.
Buyer Beware
If you’re going to do green-laning, go for the XC as it’s better suited to the task. But it’s not as practical on-road as the XR. Most people just use the Tiger 800 as a road bike, in which case go for an XR. Check the battery tray because the drain hole can get blocked and cause it to fill up with water, leading to electrical faults. Also, in particularly dusty conditions the throttle body linkage can need lubricating, otherwise it seizes giving an erratic idle so that is something to watch out for.
