We spoke to eBay about keeping safe and they offered the following advice:

Always view the vehicle before sending any money

Requests for payment via bank transfer can be a sign of a scam. Buyers should start and complete the purchase on eBay, where possible, so they are covered by the eBay Moneyback Guarantee. We know that this is not possible with classified ads, however, in this case the buyer should still inspect the vehicle before sending any money

Learn about the seller and review their feedback

Research the approximate value of the vehicle you are interested in buying, and compare on other sites. If the price is too good to be true, it probably isn’t genuine
