‘I OWN AN GSX-S1000F…
…and it’s really flexible’
‘I passed my test in my late 30s as it was something I always wanted to do and spent the first couple of years being what I would describe as fair-weather weekender. I had a Kawasaki ZX-6R which I loved to ride, although my body aches said differently – so changed that for a BMW F800GT which I found comfy but a bit dull, which lead to the Suzuki GSX-S1000F. ‘Having the comfort and weather protection of a tourer but with the power delivery of the GSX-R K5 engine really appealed. I’ve had it a year now and have done 3000 miles. Overall, I really like the Suzuki. I’ve been up to Oban, round the ‘Rest and Be Thankful’ route, around the Borders, a weekend in Whitby – the GSX-S is a really comfy, quick and flexible bike. The only additions I’ve made are heated grips, SW-Motech side bags and a set of Michelin Road Pilot 4 tyres, which I have found to be great. ‘My only issues are about wind buffeting, low-down power and pillion capability. That’s what appeals about the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX – its looks, comfort, flexibility, technology and integrated seamless luggage make it seem a more accomplished package. I think its smoother power delivery at lower speed would be an improvement over my current bike and that it would be great for longer days in the saddle, going between twists and long-distance cruising. It’s more expensive in terms of both overall cost and PCP rates though. Would I swap? Possibly…’
