KTM 790 Adventure R

A mix of extreme enduro-like aggression and superb usability

-

Instead of chasing big bhp and the inevitable weight gains that follow, the 790’s claimed 95bhp and 65lb.ft from its 799cc parallel twin are on a par with the Honda Africa Twin and BMW F850GS in terms of output. But instead of weighing in at 232kg like the Honda, the KTM tips the scales at a 204.4kg (fully wet).

The mass is also carried lower, with the 790 holding its 20 litres of fuel low down on either side of the bike, instead of mounted in the high conventional position for a fuel tank. This means the 790’s centre of gravity is low, which is good for stability and technical riding. Stood up, the riding position feels natural but purposeful and you can get the weight exactly where you want it. There are engine maps for Rain, Street and Sport, and even a Rally mode that allows the rider to adjust the amount of rear wheel spin. It’s a compact, highly-capable, confidence-inspiring package.
