The 1290 is KTM’s biggest and maddest adventure offering
Quite possibly the most extreme adventure bike ever made. But you don’t have to be a Dakar god to get the best from it. Cutting-edge rider aids turn this off-road animal into a gentle giant, or let you release the leash if you’re a really talented rider. It boasts a 1301cc 160bhp engine, excellent 6.5in full colour TFT dash and backlit switchgear, distinctive LED headlight and useful integrated cornering lights all linked to a Bosch IMU, which communicates with the traction control and cornering ABS. Rider modes comprise Sport, Street, Rain, and Off-road – and there’s keyless ignition and tyre monitors. The R benefits from fullyadjustable WP suspension with 220mm of travel at both ends and 250mm of ground clearance. The laced rims are 21in on the front and 18in on the rear, catering for the hardcore off-road tyre options, too. A nutcase of a bike, tamed so us mere mortals can also enjoy it.
