RIDE WNEOSRTTH
This route zigzags across the incredible Brecon Beacons and includes one of the UK’s best biking roads. From Abergavenny take the A40 following the River Usk upstream along some fantastic curves as it climbs into the hills. Look out for the left turn to Talybont-on-Usk, a dog-leg that crosses the river and runs through the village; turn right onto the B4588, then take a left towards Cefn Coed. This narrow single track darts between the hedgerows, rising with the valley before breaking cover for a refreshing run along the Talybont Reservoir, then drop down to skirt the Pontsticill Reservoir and roll on to Merthyr. Follow the signs for Neath and the route will loop onto the A465 heading west towards Brecon. Then enjoy the dizzying descent of Devil’s Elbow and on to Ystradgynlais and Llangadog for one of the greatest rides in the UK, the Black Mountain Pass – ending at Llandovery.
