Forty-Eight*

-

The Forty-Eight is one of Harley’s best-selling models thanks not only to a very reasonable price tag, but also some truly classic looks that are combined with bags of attitude and a whole heap of Milwaukee heritage. It may be lacking somewhat in practicality due to its peanut-sized petrol tank, but that has never dented its appeal. And you can own one this year after a deposit of just £149!

Based on the running gear of the Sportster 1200, and powered by the same 1202cc air-cooled V-twin, the Forty-Eight is distinguished by its fat balloon tyres and ‘bulldog’ stance which when combined with wide forks give it a look all of its own. Mean and pleasingly bereft of any clutter and with cut-down mudguards and blacked-out details, the Forty-Eight is a bike that lets its style do all the talking and that is key to its popularity.

If you want a bike to be seen on, the Forty-Eight is the one and it also provides the perfect base for some serious customisation fun. Although possibly not touring…

In order to achieve the classic retro style, Harley have only armed the forty-Eight with a 7.9-litre fuel tank, which means you will be looking for a petrol stop rather frequently if you try and cover any serious distances. But why would you? Stick to shorter journeys and instead enjoy this bike for what it is – a fabulous-looking custom that screams HarleyDavidson and makes you feel like a million dollars when you’re riding one.
