OUT AND ABOUT
Six pages of destinations & great riding inspiration
The National Motorcycle Museum is home to the biggest collection of British bikes in the world with over 170 different makes and nearly 1000 bikes on display. Unfortunately, the museum has been hit hard by the pandemic and has had its doors shut since March 2020 with no means of income. They have also been repeatedly denied support from various public grants.
But from May 17, the museum is opening its doors again to welcome in visitors and keep the most important collection of our motorcycle heritage afloat. The museum will have new exhibits, a reinvented food court with a full snack and hot food offering, and the glorious Museum Live event is now pencilled in for October 30-31. Want another reason to visit? You could win a 2021 Triumph Trident 660 as part of the museum’s second Covid raffle appeal. First prize is the brandnew Trident donated by the Triumph factory, second prize is a 1978 Triumph Trident T160 and third prize is a 1956 Triumph Tiger T100 restored by the museum itself. The draw takes place on June 25 and tickets cost £6. Museum Director James Hewing told MCN: “We’re opening on May 17 but spread it out guys! People don’t have to prebook because it’s a big place, but we obviously want to keep everyone safe and distanced.”
The museum is now cashless, so you’ll need to take a card, and the plan is to open seven days a week unless anything changes. Visit www. nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk
