Get sporty with a used CBR600RR,

-

The history of the CBR family goes back over 30 years, but the arrival of the CBR600RR broke the mould in 2003. It had a great handle on the road, but this sportsbike was built for the track.

The first generation CBR600RRs (2003-2006) are generally sound machines, but there are a few things to look out for. They had a common issue with the buttons not working on the clocks, so take some time to see if they stick when you scroll through the dash settings. There are plenty of tutorials online to help fix this issue, but if you need to get a replacement, the clocks will set you back around £100.

Take care to check the tank too. When doing routine maintenance, it’s easy to disturb and kink the vent and drain hoses which can allow water to collect at the bottom of the tank. Grab a torch and look inside to check for signs of corrosion It’s likely that the bike will have a few miles on the clock, and may have been thrashed on track. Check whether the gearbox jumps out of second when under load. If it does, or the gearbox is excessively noisy, then move on to another bike, as rebuilds are costly.
