RIDE THE NEW TRACER 9 GT
Sports-tourer is Yamaha’s best yet
When the Tracer first reached our shores back in 2015, it made a huge impact. Now, in 2021, the Tracer 9 GT is here and means business.
New chassis
The chassis has undergone an entire rebuild, with the new CF diecast Deltabox frame designed to offer the best sports performance and excellent comfort. It’s lighter and more compact than before, which gives the Tracer 9 GT better handling overall.
Another important improvement for 2021 is the repositioning of the updated 890cc CP3 engine, which is now mounted in a more upright angle of 52.3º - a five-degree increase compared to its predecessor. These changes improve the overall balance of the chassis with more feedback from the front end.
New engine
At the heart of the new Tracer 9 GT is an uprated CP3 engine stroked by 3mm to give a larger 890cc capacity that delivers 4bhp more peak power and increased torque lower in the rev range for a real punch out of corners and is packed full of character.
Tonnes of spec
The Tracer 9 GT has the highest spec in Yamaha’s sports-touring line, and, as you would expect, it’s kitted out with the latest tech and practical additions for improved functionality. The hard panniers are especially useful, as each side can fit a full-face helmet, while the heated grips are a welcome addition on long rides.
The electronic suspension is a clever feature, too. Developed in partnership with KYB, the semi-active suspension system generates a much wider range of damping force than conventional suspension, and constantly responds to changing road conditions.
Aside from the fast adjustments to the damping settings, the suspension can be used in two modes: A-1 is the sporting mode and is designed to deliver taut and responsive suspension action for fast riding on dry roads but can also accommodate wet conditions. The suspension can also be switched to A-2 mode to provide
a more supple and comfortable ride on rough or uneven surfaces, making it the ideal choice on longer and more relaxed journeys as touring returns in 2021.
