MCN’s tester Michael Neeves spills the beans in a bid to help bikers improve their skills

-

There are lots of things that are brilliant about biking, but unless you’ve got your head in the right place all sorts of things can go wrong.

That’s what MCN Chief Road Tester Michael Neeves will be looking at in the second video in the new More Secrets of a Road Tester series. And he should know what it takes to get your motorcycling mind right; he’s been road testing for over 20 years and racing for about the same amount of time. The latest instalment is live now on Bikertekshop.co.uk – where Neeves looks in depth at a rider’s state of mind. Still the most important subject overall, especially for a new or nervous rider, we’ll be able to see the rider’s state of mind before and during their ride and then give tips at the end of the assessment session on how to improve. Our volunteer rider for this video is Gareth Evans who is building up his experience after gaining his full licence just over a year ago and is loving life on a Triumph Trident 660. He gets vital advice on how to ensure your brain is helping get the most out of every ride and how you can train it to stay sharp and safe.

The State of Mind video goes live on June 23 and three more episodes will follow on a weekly basis. Speed Control, due to be released on June 30 is all about being in charge of every situation. Riding too slowly puts your destiny in someone else’s hands. Stick to speed limits, but ride at a pace where you can take action where things are likely to happen: junctions, blind corners, farms etc. Our man in the hot seat for this one is BikerTek’s Rich Spate. Despite being hugely experienced, he was amazed by how much he learnt from Neeves.

The week after that (July 7), there’s a guide to mastering all types of conditions and then a summing up session will be released on July 14. There will also be a bonus sixth video looking at how the DocBike project works (July 21). It will feature a day in the life of a band of emergency service workers who are out there trying to keep all road users safe, and especially bikers. See what challenges they face.

Make sure you check out this latest series of insightful videos, created by MCN in conjunction with the BikerTek shop.
