Be the best all the time

Latest episode in MCN’s new video series helps even the most experienced riders master challenging conditions

It’s summer now right? And that means sun-drenched roads, azure-blue skies and the smell of freshly cut grass and slowly melting Tarmac.

Not if you live in the UK it doesn’t. Summer in the UK means a bit of that every now and then (if you’re lucky) interspersed with heavy downpours, wind-swept countryside and roads strewn with all kinds of debris from farmyard mud to spillages from grain trucks around harvest time.

MCN Chief Road Tester Michael Neeves will be looking at how to cope with varying riding conditions in the latest in our More Secrets of a Road Tester video series. This session is the fourth in a six-part new series which is now live on Bikertekshop.co.uk. Watch parts one (Cornering), two (State of Mind) and three (Speed Control) for FREE now and Riding Well in all Conditions goes live today (July 7).

In this riding masterclass, Neevesy will help rider Gareth Evans cope with whatever the ever-changing conditions throw at him. Gareth’s been riding for a couple of years now and recently stepped up to Triumph’s Trident 660, but he openly admits he’s still got loads to learn. Neeves, who has been road testing and racing for over 20 years, looks at how to prepare rider and machine so that riding in rain, wind, super-hot sun and darkness becomes a safe and satisfying experience. Some of the key areas deal with grip, vision, being seen and being comfortable. Body position, braking and tyre advice are also tackled in this must-see video.

And a week later (July 14), a new video will be released, rounding up all of the key tips and advice covered in the first four instalments. Two other, more experienced riders, have been used in some of these episodes, proving that no matter how long you’ve been riding motorcycles, there’s always room for improvement.

There will also be a bonus sixth video looking at how the DocBike project works (due to be released on July 21). It will feature a day in the life of a band of emergency service workers who are out there trying to keep all road users safe, especially bikers and show what challenges they face.

Make sure you check out this latest series of insightful videos, created by MCN in collaboration with the BikerTek shop.
