O ‘Spectators will be back at Lydden Hill’

Dating back to 1966, the Lord of Lydden and Sidecar Burn-up has always been one of the biggest events in the calendar attracting top riders including Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, six times BSB Champion and 1997 Lord of Lydden, as well as eight-times world champion and current Sidecar Burn-up champion Tim Reeves, to their home track at Lydden Hill Race Circuit near Dover. This year the Lord of Lydden will return on October 23-24, organised by Lydden Hill Motorsport Club to provide the end-of-season finale for motorcycle and sidecar racing in the UK.

An action-packed weekend

For 2021 more than 150 riders will return to Lydden Hill across 11 classes, including the Open Solos, F1/F2 sidecars, Supertwins, Classic Sidecars, British Scooter Sport Organisation and Fab Racing – where riders as young as eight will reach speeds of 80mph competing for the Junior Lord of Lydden title. Entries for the 2021 running of this historic race event have been coming in thick and fast, with competition hotting-up across all classes.

The Isle of Man TT’s most successful sidecar competitor, Dave Molyneux – who has amassed 17 TT victories and 30 TT podium finishes with his first win dating back to 1989 – has confirmed he will join the sidecar grid. Molyneux said that he could not finish his long career without throwing his hat in the ring for the Sidecar Burn-up, which he will compete this year with passenger Dan Sayle on his own bespoke outfit powered by a KTM 890cc parallel-twin engine.

Spectators return

The current Lord of Lydden and BMCRC Clubman 600 Championship rider, Dawid Krawiecki, will be back on the grid defending his title from Tom Ward, BSB Pirelli Superstock rider and 2019 Lord of Lydden, also battling the reigning champ, Luke Dixon, nephew of Darren Dixon the only rider to claim victory in both the Lord of Lydden and Sidecar Burn-up.

The 32 fastest riders from across the weekend will qualify for the Lord of Lydden race to contest for the 2021 title and their share of the £2000 prize money.

Last year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, access for spectators was restricted – however, all being well, spectators will be welcomed back with full access to all areas to enjoy a host of motorcycle and sidecar displays, meet and greets with ex Lord of Lydden and Sidecar Burn-up winners, displays from Kent Youth Trials Club, children’s entertainment, charity appearances, live music, bars, street food and weekend camping. With the on-track action providing neck-and-neck racing all weekend, this event will end the motorcycle season with a bang at Lydden Hill.
