Triumph tease Tiger 1200 and James Bond edition Tiger 900

T-plane crank will bring V-twin delivery

-

The eagerly anticipated new Triumph Tiger 1200 will get the T-plane crank and firing order first used in the Tiger 900. The T-plane is a crank layout that offsets the firing order to create a longer gap between pulses from two out of the three cylinders. Triumph say this improves character and tractability at lower revs, imitating the sound and feel of a twin, without sacrificing the refinement of a triple at higher revs. Triumph’s big-capacity adventure bike has fallen a long way behind BMW’s benchmark R1250GS, but with new images of the bike flying through the air in off-road testing sessions, the firm have made it very clear that they have the standardsetting Beemer in their sights. The new Tiger 1200 should weigh in at less than 249kg wet and have enough power (around 140bhp) to worry its adventure bike rivals. Triumph have also pulled the covers off a limited-edition James Bond bike. To celebrate the longawaited release of James Bond:

No Time to Die on September 30, Triumph have unleashed a Tiger 900 Rally Pro Bond Edition, which follows the Scrambler 1200 special unveiled last year. A Tiger 900 and 1200 Scrambler (£18,500) both feature in the action-packed movie. The new 900 gets an all-black paintjob with gold 007 decals and blacked-out components. You also get a 007 start-up screen on the

dash, an Arrow exhaust, heated seat and more aggressive Michelin Anakee Wild tyres to fit, if you wish. The new Tiger 900 Bond Edition can be ordered at your local dealer now, and will cost £16,500 – a £3k premium over the Rally Pro, leaving your wallet both shaken and stirred.
