Indulge in supersport fun without the supersport price

Budget brand Sinnis have added a new bike to their range with the potential to bring supersport thrills to teenagers without costing a fortune. Called the GPX125, it was designed and engineered here in the UK but is manufactur­ed in China.

As the name suggests, a water-cooled 124cc single sits at the heart of the bike, producing around 12.7bhp @ 9500rpm and 7.9lb.ft of torque. Nothing compared to the machines it shares a likeness with, or the screaming twostrokes of old, but it’s about on the money for legal L-plate fun these days. Plus it won’t need new piston rings every Christmas.

The engine sits in a tubular steel main frame, with suspension duties taken care of by 48mm USD forks and a preload adjustable monoshock. For braking duties Sinnis have avoided the extra weight of big-bike styled twin-disc front end, opting instead for a single 276mm disc that’s linked with the 220mm rear. The choice of 100/80-17 and 140/70-17 tyres also means that while the stock ones might not be up to much, there are plenty of options.

Despite its budget price the bike has some nice touches such as the reverse LCD dash with the ‘GP-esque’ tacho. It’s also got full LED lightning, including a front set-up that consists of two big spots in the sidepods and smaller DRL strips in the face, again echoing the race styling of bigger and pricier machines.

Interestin­gly, Sinnis have given the bike a real track focus, with aerodynami­c bodywork, a screen designed to hide a rider in a racing tuck and tank shaped for locking your knees into. Even the seat has been designed to support riders clambering all over it on a track. Whether you take it on track is another matter but on a warm dry Sunday morning, it should be a hoot on B-roads.

The GPX125 costs £3299 with a two-year warranty, which makes it considerab­ly cheaper than the market leading Yamaha R125, but £500 more than its nearest rival: the Lexmoto LXR125. The GPX125 is available in dealers now.
