Biking group raise £20,000 for children who are facing life-limiting conditions

-

The Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (WSMBA) have raised £20,000 across 2022 for the Lifelites children’s charity, supporting kids with life-limiting conditions and disabilities.

Members completed their fund raising for the year with a ride into London to deliver a cheque for £10,000, with the money going towards tech for those in need.

“I’ve been involved in fundraising for Lifelites for many years now,” President of the WSMBA, Greg Kirby said. “The work they do is incredible, giving children in hospices the chance to have fun. Being a Widows Son is about having fun with your friends, but also about doing good, and it is a privilege to lead a 1000 strong association working together to support children who need that support more than most.”

One of the pieces of tech invested in by the charity is virtual reality equipment – allowing young people some digitally-imagined escapism and the chance to experience things outside their hospice.

The charity is the only one working with every children’s hospice service across the British Isles, helping around 10,000 people every year.

CEO of Lifelites, Rob Lightfoot said “We are delighted to have support from the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association, who have supported us for several years.

“The funds that they have donated will help us to provide packages of technology to empower children and young people with life-limiting conditions to engage and interact with the people they love and enjoy the world they live in.”

packages worth around £52,000, with each one lasting four years. This includes the cost of the equipment, installation, staff training, technical support and more.

They then aim to revisit each site at the end of this period with a range of the latest equipment.
