Under the skin of the SC RR

That swingarm…

“We sent the swingarm off to get scanned. Once we got the data back we uploaded it to CAD so we could reverse engineer it. We managed to make the swingarm hollow so we could use it as a tank for the water-methanol. We got a rapid prototype 3D printed which we could install to fine-tune the fit. The end result is the single most expensive component we’ve ever made, at £14,000.”

Charge cooling

“There wasn’t space to fit an air-to-air intercooler so we went for water-methanol injection. We designed a snorkel to take charge from the supercharger round and over the frame and into the plenum, from there it gets boosted, cooled by methanol and mixed with fuel. We put fins on that snorkel too to further help with cooling. The system sprays water-meth into the top of the plenum at 200psi.”

Electronics

“We decided to get rid of all the standard electronics and use our own bespoke system. There was so much weight and so much stuff that we weren’t going to use. We kept the standard battery and the starter solenoid and built a custom wiring loom around it, using a Link Fury G4X ECU and the ECU Master power management unit as well as the ECU Master 5in ADU advanced display unit.”

Blinding lights

“The space where the headlamp was is now the air intake. The actual headlights are two laser projectors, one pointed low and the other slightly higher. We built the indicators into the heel guards; they look like factory heel guards but we’ve made them and they’ve actually got a 3D printed conduit to contain the wire and we’ve made all this housing. The bike’s totally road legal… well, it has an MoT!”
