‘I’ll be glued to the WSBK race’

- TT Legend John McGuinness MBE in MCN every week

I can't believe it’s WSBK this weekend. We seem to have been wishing the winter away and now it’s finally come round again.

Phillip Island always throws up a bit of an odd result, but it’s a fantastic venue.

It’s going to be an interesting season, Johnny Rea has new motivation and has to do better on the R1 than he did on the Kawasaki last year. From a championship point of view, I don’t think you can look past the top three.

I know Bulega has been super fast in testing, but I just can’t see a rookie winning the championship. The top guys know the bikes and the tracks inside out. I can see Bulega winning races but also making mistakes when the pressure is on. Races and championships are not won on a new tyre over one lap, they’re won on lap 20 with a worn out tyre – especially at Phillip Island where it’s the cleverest riders that come out on top in the end.

I think Scott Redding has the talent and a point to prove and there’s Sam Lowes who, on his day, is as fast as anyone.

I don’t know who will win at Phillip Island but what I do know is that I’ll be glued to the telly during the early hours and I’m sure the racing will be epic.

Changing the subject, I’m just back from the MCN Show in London and what a great event it was. I’ve nearly lost my voice from spending three days chatting to all the punters, which I love.

For me the highlight was talking around a lap of the TT with Hicky, I really enjoyed that and I even learned a bit. Meeting Jorge Martin was cool, I’m a bit of a fan boy and it turns out he was a bit of fan boy towards me and what I do. He was really interested in the TT, never once said I was crazy, just respect. And to top it off I got into a VIP interview where James Whitham and MCN’s Michael Guy were speaking to him and really got to open him up. I think it’s the best interview with a MotoGP rider I’ve ever seen. I’m already looking forward to next year’s show.
