Big plans at CCM
Boss of British firm discusses global sales plans, new factory, and boutique luxury
CCM have impressive plans for the future, including an international sales network and bigger factory, complete with a visitor centre.
“We’ve got new investment from a new owner, and he wants to see the brand do well,” Managing Director Tom Soar told MCN.
“We think we can create a really good, global motorcycle brand - a British success story making bikes in the UK.”
According to Soar, this plan will begin with improving the existing product line, before expanding to a planned 5000 units a year.
‘We can create a really good, global brand’
“We want to be selling in all the major markets in the world - so North America, Europe and so on,” he continued. “We want to build ourselves a new home, hopefully in Bolton, so we want to build ourselves a 75,000sqft factory and we’re already starting to work with better suppliers.
“And then, in the future there will be new products, and we’ll be looking to take those abroad and turn ourselves into a much bigger company,” he added. “There’s going to be a visitor attraction as well as a factory. I think it’s a really exciting story. There’s a lot of hard work to come, but I think we can do that.”
Going beyond the UK Alongside special editions, the current CCM range consists of the Maverick, Bobber, Tracker, and Roadster. These are all built around the same trellis frame and 600cc four-stroke single, which is based on a former BMW design and now built in Italy.
Rather than meeting the current Euro5✚ rules, these bikes go through a motorcycle single vehicle approval process to become road-worthy. This will need to be addressed in order to realise CCM’s global ambitions.
“We’re getting constant emails all the time from America, Italy… everywhere asking how they can buy them, and we can’t sell abroad,” Soar continued. “There’s a lot to do, so I think we would look to team up with an engine partner and that would probably be our preference.”
Making it personal
The Bolton firm are also pushing their customisation programme which allows customers to choose from one of four trim levels, plus a more advanced commissioning scheme for a fully bespoke finish. Back at Motorcycle Live 2023 in Birmingham, a number of one-offs were on display, featuring differing levels of trim, plus unique paint.
“The idea is you take those bikes, you choose your level, and from there you spec out,” Soar explained. “It’s something we really want to push now. We want people to come and have fun speccing out their own bike. If they want to do more than just personalise it, then they can commission us to do something.”
