Going further with less

Lightweight Adventure Festival heads to the Peak District

-

The Lightweight Adventure Festival is back in the heart of the Peak District for 2024. The event is a celebration of travelling with less, whether that’s a smaller machine, less luggage, or simply a minimalist mindset.

Single day admission will set you back between £49-£55 depending on the day, or alternatively, tickets including camping are £99 to cover the full weekend of July 12-14.

The event’s Marc Deri said: “We’ve gone from what was a relatively basic nine-acre field to a 40-acre site with hardstanding, barns and pockets of areas we can separate off. It’s going to have less of a rally feel to previous years. But we still want to stick to its roots – we still want it to be accessible and affordable.”

The festival focuses on travelling light, with speakers regaling crowds with their own tales of travel aboard smaller capacity machines, including stories of continent crossing trips and off-road motorcycling.

Speakers including Austin Vince, Hema Choudhary and Ben King will be in attendance, among other world travellers. Two main-stage tents will provide a base for the talks as well as a live recording of the Trail and Adventure Motorbike Podcast.

Alongside this, the organisers will be running their own ‘Academy of Adventure’ throughout the weekend, using their military know-how to instruct budding biking enthusiasts in the art of travelling light.

“Hopefully people can take away new knowledge and inspiration,” co-organiser Jamie Thom added. “But in previous years people have even left with new friendships. We had two guys send us a picture riding together in the Arctic Circle after they'd met at the first festival.”

Head to lightweightadventurers. co.uk for tickets. With the extra capacity, this year's event can accommodate up to 5000 people.
