What better way to prep for an action-packed year of motorcycling than spending a bit of time with MCN’s Chief Road Tester Michael Neeves as he shares some wise words in a special series of Bootcamp videos?

Whether you’ve been battling through Britain’s wet and windy winter or tucked up indoors awaiting warmer weather… there’s sure to be something in this new video series that makes this coming year of biking the best yet.

It’s all too easy to get a bit giddy once warmer weather arrives and the opportunity to wind it on through some finally-dry sweepers presents itself, joined by the sun on your back and smell of warm tarmac in your nostrils.

A brief pause for thought and a sit-down with a cup of tea while watching this latest series of BikerTek/MCN videos might just make everything even better.

There are six videos in the series with the first two already released. These cover speed management and cornering. The remaining four films will be released weekly from Wednesday, March 6.

Neevesy is joined by MCN reader Gavin Freeman as they rattle around some of the challenging roads that often feature in MCN road tests. BMW S1000RR owner Freeman has been riding for about six years. He said: “It’s easy to get a bit carried away and let your speed creep up and then you find yourself in a lot of trouble.”

In the second video that has just gone live, Neevesy reveals his top tips on how to get a corner right when riding on the road. He gives Freeman tips on road positioning, posture, how to read the road, the best line to take and how to get speed spot on.

The remaining four episodes cover numerous key aspects of riding well and safely on the road. Subjects include: overtaking, how to tackle tiredness, setting your motorcycle up properly and simple but effective bike maintenance.

As well as practical tips for what to do when riding on the road, there are also a lot of things to think about. Neevesy says: “Having the right mindset before you even throw a leg over a motorcycle is so important and can make a ride more enjoyable and certainly a lot safer.

“And sometimes that mental preparation can begin the day or evening before a big ride. Making sure you get a good night’s sleep and are properly hydrated all help make a ride even better.”

Freeman is on hand for the entire BikerTek/MCN series as he offers a perspective that everyday road riders can relate to.

The videos contain a great deal of riding advice that can be applied to almost any ride and any situation, as well as some top tips on how to ensure your bike is set up and maintained properly.

In the final episode ex-BSB and WSBK racer Chris Walker opens up his Kawasaki dealership in Grantham to the intrepid pair to give Freeman’s Beemer a once-over and also offer advice on what riders should be checking.

Helen Page, of BikerTek, said: “This will be our third year supporting the video series and we’ve had such good feedback from viewers that we couldn’t wait to get involved again.

“Michael Neeves’ no-nonsense attitude and down-to-earth riding tips means there’s something here for everyone.”

BikerTek is all about enjoying biking life on the open road and they will be visiting various motorcycling events, rallies and bike cafes this year. A stunning custom-built machine will be the star of the BikerTek stand. The Old Empire machine is made from BikerTek’s unique range of parts.
