Haslam wins again

Series leader turns up the heat at Thruxton

Josh Brookes believes there is still something missing with his McAMS Yamaha despite winning three of the last four races.

The 2015 champ has been nearer the sharp end since Snetterton, but still believes he and the team can take further steps with the YZF-R1 to enable him to shrink Haslam’s lead. Brookes was fourth in the opening race at Thruxton after struggling for speed on the straights, but a change of gearing in race two saw him storm to his second victory of the year and match series leader Leon Haslam’s points haul for the weekend. “I don’t feel like I’ve got the competitive edge I’ve had with the R1 in the past, I actually feel reminiscent of the Suzuki days where I could win but not consistently be up there,” Brookes told MCN. “I’m having bad sessions in qualifying. It’s not all running smoothly yet. “I’m over-riding trying to hang on to the likes of Leon and Jake and keep up front. I know there’s more potential. I’m not reaching for the stars, just trying for what I’ve achieved before. “Some weekends I’m not going as quick as I have in the past, so that tells me there is more to come. If we can get the bike to its full potential we can bring home more wins and podiums rather than just maybe a win or podium here and there.

“I like Cadwell and love Silverstone so hopefully we can continue to fight. This championship isn’t over yet and I am definitely still in it.”
