“I didn’t try the manual version, as the best deals at the time were on the DCT version. It’s amazing how quickly you adapt to the auto transmission. It’s really smooth and you don’t miss having to change gear. DCT is biking for lazy people. “Sadly, the heated grip switch burned out at about 700 miles. A warning symbol appeared on the dash and the grips stopped working. (they’re truly are a waste of time as their five heat settings range from stone-cold to tepid). CJ Ball said it was a known switchgear fault that also affected the Africa Twin, so they fixed it. At this point I also fitted a rear hugger and a shock ‘sock’, as I noticed the rear suspension was getting peppered with muck. I don’t adjust the suspension, but CJ Ball recommended I twiddle the preload adjuster to stop it from seizing.”
