The Race-R has a timelessly classy styling quality, underpinned by its carbon aramid shell, quality of the finish, feel of the materials and high level of protection. It’s quiet, comfortable, plush, stable at speed, light enough (1250g) the visor system is beautifully fast and simple to use, and the visors are Pinlock-free and mist-free. I also like the double D-ring chin strap, simple venting, and effective breath and chin guards.

My only gripes are that the top of my ears get folded down every time I pop it on my head, prompting an inelegant ear-freeing dance, or a hand up the inside of the lid to free them. And there’s no mesh on the chin vent, which means whole, live, flying annoyances are often catapulted through the vent to buzz before your eyeballs. Beyond that, it’s faultless.
