‘I’ve got control now’
“My tiny little brain kept getting overwhelmed on hill descents, and I was never really in control before. “I wasn’t using proper body positioning at all and Pete helped massively with sorting that out. Once I got the body position right, I could stand up comfortably and cover the rear brake easily.
“I was a little bit shakey at first, and kept stalling as I was going too slowly. But in the end I got used to descending with a little more momentum and using the rear brake to help me control my speed. “It was really good. We did it repeatedly to get the technique right, and rode down a hill that was as steep as the one I’d fallen off on before, which boosted my confidence. “I realised how much of it was a mental block. But the technique has now given me the confidence to believe that what I’m doing will work. I feel so much more in control now.”
