One gallon is enough for some serious thrills

Three incredible short routes and three more rides to top bike events

-

Reader James Cravens reckons this is the best route MCN has ever featured in the One Gallon Challenge, although the 70-mile route might be pushing your fuel economy to the max. He said: “It’s a stunning start up the Welsh coast and you’ll barely see a soul. “The view at Llanfair is simply stunning and then you have a sweeping ride up to Pant-y-Pistyll where the reservoir offers more jaw-dropping views. There’s a café on the banks and a garage a little further on.

“As you ride towards Bala, you’ll border another two reservoirs before heading back into heavily wooded roads. You need to have your wits about you if you’re pushing on as it’s a demanding ride. The final stretch puts sea air back in your nostrils, finishing where you started, in Barmouth.”
