Ulster GP shock winner

-

Peter Hickman’s 2018 road racing juggernaut rolled on at the Ulster Grand Prix with two victories completing his winning run at all three domestic internationals this season.

“It’s been a really tough event for the organisers who’ve had a lot to deal with,” the Senior TT winner said. “The conditions weren’t great.” Those conditions ruined the only Superbike race action of the event when Hickman and Dean Harrison had a coming together after Conor Cummins dropped his Padgett’s Honda at the hairpin.

The BMW rider said: “Dean had come up the inside of me and I looked over my shoulder and didn’t see Conor crash. I hit Dean and broke his footpeg and then I ran over Conor.”

Shortly afterwards red flags brought the race to a premature end. “I was credited with the Superbike win after just two laps but it doesn’t really feel like a proper victory,” Hickman added.

Still suffering the effects of the kidney infection that troubled him at Thruxton, the BSB star paid another visit to hospital after his arrival at Dundrod. “I have a severe kidney infection and Thruxton probably took its toll on my body.”

The 30-year-old recovered to win the second Supersport race on the Trooper Beer Triumph. “I managed to get past Dean and Adam McLean on the first lap and got my head down.” Hickman romped away to an eight second win and his performances earned him the Man of the Meeting trophy for the second year in a row.
