Triumph’s super-sized 1200 Scrambler breaks cover
Big-bore retro off-roader set to be revealed in October
Triumph have released a video giving hints about their all-new 1200c Scrambler and revealing that the big-bore retro will be fully unveiled on October 24.
The 11-second video shows the machine riding along a trail towards a steep slope before jumping out of frame, indicating that off-road ability will be a big part of the overall package. Earlier this year we spied what looked like a production-ready 1200 testing in Spain and after looking closely at the new video it’s clear that this is the same bike. Even the perforations on the engine bash plate match the prototype.

The Scrambler is set to be the latest in a line of retros powered by Triumph’s 1200cc parallel-twin engine. Introduced in 2016, the twin now powers the Bonneville, Thruxton and Bobber and, while Triumph already have the 900cc Street Scrambler, this looks like being a more high-performance proposition both on and off road. With the mid-capacity Street Scrambler in the range it makes sense for the Scrambler to have more power. There are a number of variants of the 1200cc motor when it comes to power output, but it should have at least the Bobber’s high-torque derivative, so you’re looking at a bike with at least 76bhp and 78ftlb on tap.
Bikes that we have spied testing have had high-end suspension, some featuring Öhlins forks with what looks around 200mm of travel. Extra off-road kudos comes with the addition of a 21in front wheel and a 17in rear, allowing the fitment of proper knobbly tyres. The bike caught in our spy shots also has fearsome Brembo monoblocks, indicating there could be a two-bike line-up. No prices have been released but the bike will go up against Ducati’s Scrambler 1100 range which starts at £10,695.
