I mostly use my BMW going out for evening and weekend blasts with friends, but I’ve also been touring on it. It’s been reliable and sometimes comfy enough for 400-mile days. But given the touring miles I cover and the improvements that have been made to sport tourers I’d buy an SX as a second bike, but to simply replace my BMW would be a push. You could have just as much fun on a sports tourer on the road and probably a whole lot more comfort covering distance on a machine that is made to do just that. The Kawasaki’s panniers would be a massive bonus as the S1000RR is limited in this department.
I’m not sure if a sports tourer would change my riding habits, but having a bike designed for longer rides would probably make me more inclined to find the best places to visit rather than the best tarmac.
