I love technology and being an IT Director the idea of a cheap-to-run, lightweight bike with lots of torque makes a lot of sense to me. My 25-mile commute is half motorway, half city riding, so I want a bike that can cruise happily with decent wind protection, but that can filter easily. I do it most of the time on my KTM, but I’ll swap to my car if it’s icy, or if I need to carry stuff. I’ve ridden a KTM Freeride-E, which I loved. It’s very light, has loads of grunt and is very easy to ride, so I’d consider an electric bike, but purely as a commuter and I’ve just moved to new offices with charging points.
Living in the north west of England, I take regular day trips into north Wales at the weekend for fun, either on my own or with a mate or two. I’d definitely get range anxiety doing that on an electric bike. I did my first proper track day last year at Oulton Park on my ’01 GSX-R750. I’d definitely consider an electric sports bike for that.
