This jacket has had a tough time. Twelve thousand miles in everything from 35-degrees to sub-zero temperatures in rain, blazing shine, snow, and off-road. And it’s shrugged it all off with ease. Nothing’s failed, nothing’s frayed or worn, and it’s still got the same effortlessly understated looks it boasted when brand new.

The outer shell is British Millerain waxed cotton, with brass poppers and zip, an attractive cotton liner, CE armour at the shoulders and elbows (and a pocket to add a back protector), and zip-out thermal liner that I never use. It’s warm, comfortable, classy looking, durable, retro enough without trying too hard, and modern enough that it doesn’t look daft wearing it on a modern bike, too. The only thing I’m not a fan of is the closure at the neck, which is too fiddly to bother with, so I tuck the strap in and never use it. The pockets are all good and secure on the outside, and there’s one on the inside, too. It’s not waterproof as such, but resists light showers with ease, and you wouldn’t feel out of place wearing it to the pub, either.
