HONDA NSR250R MC28
249cc | 40-67bhp | 770mm seat height
The NSR250 MC28 is probably the trickest and best built of the 250s with loads of top-end tech like the PGM ECUs, GP-derived V-twin engine, 3D mapped ignition, smart card ignition and single-sided swingarm. MC28s can be a pain to de-restrict, but they are great road bikes with a useable midrange and that lovely 90s Honda build quality. Keep an eye out for the very desirable SE and SP models which run adjustable suspension, dry clutches and, in the SP’s case, lightweight Magtek wheels.
Buyer beware
Rusty petrol tanks and noisy cranks make for an expensive rebuild job as do faulty powervalves. They are prone to the exhaust port bridge breaking which will need a barrel repair and replate, but there is a mod to solve this.
