STICK’S PICKS
MY FAVOURITE TOOLS FOR THROTTLECABLES
10-12mm spanners
A full set of metric spanners should be part of any motorcyclist’s tool armoury but for this job the 10 and 12mm ones will be called on. Always buy the best spanners you can afford.
Allen T-bars 4-5mm
Far better than the sort of Allen keys that live on a giant keyring, these will give you plenty of control and lessen the risk of damaging fasteners which may have corroded and seized up over time and exposure to weather.
Crosshead screwdrivers
Have a range of sizes to hand so you can be sure of a good grip and plenty of control over the screw, again this is important on fasteners that have been exposed to the weather over the years and may be reluctant to budge.
Pliers
These will come in handy when you need to get a grip on the cables. As with all tools, buy the best you can afford and they will do you good service when it comes to tackling other jobs on your machine.
