Researcher­s studying so called ‘nootropics’ – drugs that enhance cognitive functions – say that eating the leaves of the pond plant water hyssop has been shown to improve memory. The small plant, which has bright white flowers, has been used in traditiona­l Indian medicine for years. However, scientists warn that while it does seem to have a ‘small positive effect’ on memory, it can also cause gastrointe­stinal issues in some people.
