IN THE RED

Meet the company bringing a unique form of therapy to mainstream fitness fans

-

Red light therapy (RLT) has been hailed for its performance and immune-boosting benefits for some time, but at-home use has been the reserve of athletes and those with cash to burn. But Red Light Rising is hoping to bring RLT to the masses, with lights of varying sizes and price points (from £95 all the way up to £2,400).

Founded by Bryan Gohi, a health and strength coach, and former Wales rugby sevens player James Strong, the company is hoping more fitness lovers will tap into the benefits of consistent red light therapy.

SEE THE LIGHT

When the red light penetrates the skin, it increases cellular energy, improving blood circulation and forming new capillaries. The red colour of the light also helps to combat blue light emitted from electronic devices and LEDs, which can disrupt natural sleep cycles.

RLT could even support immune function, by boosting the activity of white blood cells, although the science is not conclusive.

“We like to think of it as an insurance policy for your wellbeing,” says Strong. “It’s something so simple that you can add into your routine without costing you time or energy out of your day, and will have a profound impact on your overall health. Both Bryan and I are passionate about squeezing the most out of our health, focusing on health span rather than life span, and red light therapy is one of the things that allows us to do that.”
