Ultra runner Jim Walmsley crosses the line having run 100 kilometres in six hours, nine minutes and 26 seconds. To put that into context, Walmsley’s 5:55 min/mile pace would bag a 5k time of 18:24, and a 36:48 10k. Despite his blistering e ort, however, he came up an agonising 12 seconds short (12 seconds, after 100k!) of the world record – although he did obliterate the American record by over 18 minutes.
