There can be few more uplifting experiences than sleeping beneath the stars at a countryside spot you’ve chosen for yourself. With only a short list of essential items and a bit of planning, you can enjoy getting away from the grind of daily life. A word on wild camping: it is legal in Scotland, but you must follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and adhere to by-laws in Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park. Elsewhere in the UK, wild camping is technically illegal except for parts of Dartmoor, although some landowners will give permission to pitch a tent if you ask. In remote areas, wild camping is often tolerated if you leave no trace.
