A huge study, tracking more than 130,000 people from 21 di erent countries for nearly a decade, has found a strong link between eating processed meat and risk of cardiovascular disease. Eating just 150g of processed meat a week (equivalent to one thin slice of ham or just half a sausage a day) was associated with a 46 per cent higher risk of cardiovascular disease and even a 51 per cent higher risk of mortality compared to those who ate no processed meat.2 Stick to organic, lean meats instead, or opt for plant-based protein sources like tofu, chickpeas and lentils.
