The key breathwork stages for freediving
Stage 1: a period of relaxed breathing, often referred to as a ‘breathe up’. This lasts for two to three minutes.
Stage 2: the taking of a pre-dive deep breath, often called ‘peak inhalation’.
Stage 3: breath hold.
Stage 4: recovery breaths, commonly referred to as ‘hook breaths’ or ‘cleansing breaths’.
Stage 5: relaxed recovery breathing.
