TAKE A STAND
Standing up during work meetings and office chats, or while sorting through your bills and laundry at home, could reduce your risk of Type 2 diabetes. A study in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport found that when subjects stand up, they enjoy better insulin sensitivity, possibly because of the extra muscles used. “These findings should encourage people to replace part of their daily sitting time with standing more often,” explained Taru Garthwaite, a doctoral candidate at the University of Turku in Finland, and the co-author of the study.
