Betaine is a modified amino acid found in shellfish, flour, many vegetables like beetroot and spinach, citrus fruit, alfalfa sprouts and wheat germ. A new study in profession­al footballer­s shows betaine supplement­ation can improve one-rep max, maximal oxygen uptake and repeated spring ability.6 The same authors showed in a previous study that it may help to increase testostero­ne to cortisol ratio and reduce systemic inflammati­on, which could explain these improvemen­ts in performanc­e.
