06\ THE BLEECKER BLACK BURGER

BUNS OF STEEL

This award-winning burger – which bookends black pudding with two beef patties – is the star of the Bleecker show. Sandwiching oxygen-transporting and focus-sharpening iron alongside 50g of protein, each order arrives as a towering 225g of goodness. If that’s not too much to bite off, as well as forging steely-eyed concentration in the gym, you’ll also be taking on 78% of your daily protein requirement to cement your gains.

Recently touted as a superfood, black pudding continues to resolutely argue its case, with research from the Food Lab suggesting that, gram for gram, it has almost the same amount of protein as a hen’s egg (6.5g to an egg’s 7g). It also offers magnesium, zinc and calcium to strengthen bones, while its balance of fats and carbohydrates forms the perfect fitness fuel for explosive bursts of flab-searing cardio.

“There is zero compromise with our ingredients,” says founder Zan Kaufman. Nor are there unnecessary chemicals. “We use rare-breed, pasture-fed beef from small farms in the UK. It comes to us via The Butchery in Bermondsey, where it’s dry-aged for 40 days, giving it an intense flavour.” With another key ingredient – thick rings of white onion – helping crush post-training inflammation, paying the iron price for your fitness has never been so appealing.
