UNIQLO’S HEATTECH MAKES LIGHT WORK OF THE IDEA THAT THERMAL CLOTHING NEEDS TO BE HEAVY

-

Look at the impenetrable coat of the Highland ram or the thick fur of the polar bear and the lesson seems self-evident: to stay warm, you need to go big, or go home. But the designers at Uniqlo begged to differ – after all, who says modern thermal clothing has to weigh you down? Instead, they decided to create something that was just as warm but far lighter. Their HEATTECH range is made from a revolutionary fabric that retains body heat, thanks to its ability to store it in air pockets built into its fibres. By trapping air like a standard thermal fabric, only much more efficiently, HEATTECH provides warmth without the weight and allows Uniqlo to produce garments just 0.55mm thick. If there’s a better fabric for layering, we’d like to see it! There are three levels of warmth to choose from – HEATTECH, HEATTECH EXTRA WARM and HEATTECH ULTRA WARM – so you can adjust your level of insulation depending on whether you’re going “full Arctic” or just heading to the gym before the sun’s come up.
